Summy's Doctor Visit

Because I do consider this my kid's baby book, I should report Summy's stats from her latest visit to the doctor.

Weight: 13.8 pounds, 58-59%
Height: 25.5 inches, 92% (whose kid is this?)
Head circumference: 16.25 inches, 64%

She was declared perfect, but Dr. Crowley always says that. She also had her shots (poor pickle)! She seems to have recovered just fine though.

The Morris Family Scores!

I don't have too much to report. I just had a few cute photos, so I thought I'd post. Leo got the most awesome pajamas in the world and for the best price ever. Joe and I have had our eye on these snazzy pjs since before Christmas. They are from PB Kids and even though I get a nice discount, they were still very overpriced. When we spotted them on sale for $14.99 plus my discount, we had to get them. Leo has worn them every night since he got them and yes, they have been washed multiple times already.

Leo is also very close to being fully potty trained. He went an entire day in underwear with no accidents, so we know he can do it, it's just a matter of motivation. None the less, we are very proud of him.

Somerset continues to be the sweetest baby ever. She is quite content being alone, except when it comes to sleeping. I spend about an hour every night rocking her in her room and getting her to sleep and as soon as I set her in her crib, her big eyes pop open and she starts crying. I have repeated these efforts up to 4 times and she is only content when I finally hold her. I LOVE holding my baby, but this has to end. Luckily,we have her 4-month visit tomorrow, so I can ask Dr. Crowley what the heck to do.

Joe tasted his first batch of home brew and wasn't very happy with the results. Hey, you gotta start somewhere. He brewed up a new batch yesterday, so in about 1 months time, we can see if he improved.

Joe also got a new pair of shoes, but not just any shoes. They are retro Nike Air Jordan 6s. Apparently, he has wanted these shoes since he was in the 10th grade. He traded an old I-Pod to get them and is thrilled with his new kicks. He is also growing a beard, so I feel like I'm with a new man!

4 Months Old!

Our little ray of sunshine is now 4 months old! She has matured so much this last month. She now laughs (we think it's her baby version of laughing), likes to stand assisted, sits with assistance and is getting cuter and more fun with each passing day. She is a good baby, but clingy and super stubborn. I worked 1 shift at Williams Sonoma and they will be phasing me in soon, so we are trying to get Summer to drink from a bottle. No such luck.

Somerset still doesn't have a real schedule yet, but I look forward to her falling into one. Luckily for me, her and Leo wake up around the same time everyday, which is between 7:30-8 a.m. She still wakes up 2-3 times a night. She also naps 3-4 times a day, but these naps are short and often interrupted by her boisterous brother.

Leo is as clever and adorable as ever. He loves the Blazers now and is constantly talking about his favorite Blazer, Nick Batum. He has recently started collecting basketball cards and knows the names of many of the players.

His obsession with Star Wars continues. He isn't just a fan, he's an expert. We plan to have a Star Wars themed birthday for him this year. He is very imaginative and builds excellent x-wing fighters and other space ships. We have checked out every children's book in the library pertaining to Star Wars, but luckily, he also like Spiderman, so we have moved on to those books.

Leo's love for Summy is unbelievable. He always talks about how sweet and gorgeous she is. I have never detected an iota of jealousy from Leo towards his baby sister, which speaks volumes about what a kind spirit he has.

Joe has taken up home brewing. He has fully immersed himself in his new hobby and is super excited to try his first batch of beer (me too). Photos to follow soon!

I have started running again and have enjoyed the chilly, yet exhilarating exercise. It is so nice to have a moment to myself, even if it is physically painful. I love running through the neighborhood....our neighborhood!

Pretty darn lucky

Joe and I have felt pretty lucky recently. We have felt so happy and blessed to be mom and dad to 2 such great kids. The love we have for them can be so overwhelming. Although we have no time together as a married couple, we consider this a temporary sacrifice. Having 2 kids has been so much work, but it is worth the effort.

Somerset is on the verge of laughing. I may have had the official first laugh today, but without being 100% sure it was a genuine laugh, I will hold off on making this declaration. I had her on my knees and she was flying in the air Superman style. Her mouth was in an open mouthed smile and she was making joyful little noises. I can't wait until she laughs all the time.

Unfortunately, Leo is sick. He rarely gets sick, so this is a big deal. He woke up in the middle of the night and was burning up. Poor little dude has hardly complained a bit, but his decreased energy is a sure sign. I have to admit that I love all the cuddles and love I get when he slows down.

Happy 2011!

Potty training means not always wearing your pants
My sweet, beautiful Somerset Rose
Happy 2011! There is no way this year can be nearly as exciting as 2010 was for us: a new home and new baby girl and a toddler who turned into a little boy. What an amazing year we had.

I feel I need to explain why I don't post many photos of Leo anymore. It certainly is not because his sister has taken his place, but rather because he has become super uncooperative with posing for photos. He refuses to look at the camera, let alone smile, so I rarely get an image of him. It's too bad too, because he is so handsome.

Speaking of Leo, Joe and I recently reflected on how Leo turned into a full-fledged little boy this year. He speaks non-stop. He is still working on grammar, but he can express just about anything he wants through language. One example of a grammatical mistake he has been making is saying, "What he doos?" instead of "What does he do?" It's pretty darn cute though.

Leo is also well under way with potty training. He has had #2 down for a while now, but I have started having him wear underwear sometimes when we are home. He has been doing pretty well with it, but we still have a long way to go.

Somerset is still as adorable as ever. She wakes up super happy and stays that way until she gets tired. She really only fusses when she is hungry, tired or out of her element. She loves to stay home and just hang with the family. She is also much more sensitive than Leo ever was. She had a crying fit today when Joe made a silly face at her. She is also much less physically active than Leo was. She doesn't want to constantly stand and jump like he did. Perhaps that is why she is so much chubbier than he was. I love her pudgy little body!!!

Somerset's hair continues to grow longer and longer. Pretty soon, she'll have enough hair for pony tails (I am not joking)! It is still the characteristic that everyone points out.

As of yesterday, I am trying to get her to fall asleep in her crib. This is no easy feat, as she loves being held all the time. I will spend 30 minutes getting her to sleep and as soon as I set her down, she wakes up and starts fussing.

We had an excellent Christmas. Joe and I had exchanged major gifts before Christmas. I got a new digital camera because my old camera was on the brink and I didn't want to miss the chance to capture Summy's first months. Joe got an i-phone because he has wanted one forever. Leo was the king of the day. He got a ton of stuff including Legos, a Hot Wheels car track, an art easel, art supplies, clothes, cars...I could go on and on. We didn't do much for Summy, but she managed to get some super cute clothes, diapers and a Minnie Mouse stuffed doll from Leo. It was a great day.

For New Years, I didn't manage to stay up until midnight (will that ever happen again?). We did have a nice weekend and Joe painted the office a color I have seen described as duck egg blue. It looks great! Next we will tackle the laundry room (dark terra cotta).

I am so excited to see where this year takes us. I am sure it will be less eventful, but hopefully, it will be filled with much happiness.
